Sword Songs

The Word of God is living and active (Heb 4:12). God's Word is profitable for teaching and reproof and correction and training in righteousness (2 Tim 3:16-17). In the beginning was the Word and the Word was God and the Word became flesh (John 1:1,2,14). Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God (Matt 4:4). Put on the full armor of God and take the sword of the spirit, which is the Word of God (Eph 6:11,17). God's Word is better than thousands of gold and silver pieces (Psalm 119:72). Do merely listen to the word of God, do what it says (James 1:22). These are just a few passage from The Bible, The Word of God, that tells us how important His Word really is. God's Word changes lives!!!

So, what is Sword Songs? I've been putting Scripture to music for years, because I want to know God better through His revealed Word. Now I want to share it with anyone who will listen. When they brought that plop plop fizz fizz song back a few years ago, it had been about 25 years since they had aired that commercial. I knew it so well as if I heard it yesterday. Why? Because they marketed their product through music. We remember music! It sticks in our heads. My wife and I are always getting songs stuck in each other's heads. Do you remember the sermon on Sunday afternoon when you are mowing the lawn or raking leaves? Maybe, but you might need to think about it. But, those worship songs are stuck in your head! What if we SANG more Scripture at church? I bet we would know our Bibles much better! This might be the only Scripture some Christians will get all week, so it would be great if Scripture was on a CD in their car or headphones.

Most Scripture music you hear these days are children's songs. But, many adults come to Christ and want to learn Scripture too. Many adults want to know more of God's Word because it changes our lives. So, we need to create a genre of Christian music that can change the world! I realize there are Scripture songs out there, but it doesn't dominate as it should. That's why we need to create scripture songs that are of good quality that people want to listen to. Also songs that are catchy so people will remember the Words.

I'm going to do my little part in this important project. Would anyone like to join me? I'll let you know my plan in the next few weeks and will start sharing some of my songs with you...
